The Dr. Robert Stout Memorial Scholarship

The Midwestern Underwriting Conference (MUC), in proud partnership with Clinical Reference Laboratory (CRL), is honored to offer the Dr. Robert Stout Memorial Scholarship. This annual sponsorship provides one deserving underwriting professional with the opportunity to attend the MUC annual conference. 

Honoring a Legacy of Innovation and Leadership

“Dr. Stout was a co-founder of CRL, loyally serving employees and clients for more than 40 years. Dr. Stout’s talents were boundless as he wore a variety of hats including business leader, educator, innovator, medical expert, and researcher. His professional innovations and accomplishments transformed the industry, and his leadership was integral to CRL’s growth and evolution. Dr. Stout was the embodiment of ‘Greater Insights, Better Outcomes’, holding more than ten U.S.Patents and author of numerous research articles and a regular presenter at scientific meetings and conferences. Dr. Stout held a B.S. in Biochemistry from California State University and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from U.C.L.A. School of Medicine. Also, Dr. Stout proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps.

In recognition of his remarkable influence and with CRL headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas, the Midwestern Underwriting Conference is proud to offer this scholarship in his memory.


What’s included:  

  • Transportation expenses and up to 3 nights hotel stay.

  • Complimentary conference registration.

  • Recognition on the MUC website and during the conference as the 2026 scholarship recipient

Who’s eligible:

  • A production underwriter

  • Employed by a direct carrier

  • Have 5 years or less of underwriting experience

  • Located within the continental US

How to apply:

  • Complete an essay, up to 1000 words sharing the ways in which you have grown as an underwriter to date, and how you are applying those insights and experiences to support long‑term success in your underwriting career.

  • Include your name, company, state/location, contact information (email/phone number), and how long you’ve been an underwriter/in the industry.

  • Submit your essay for consideration to midwesternunderwritingconf@gmail.com, no later than June 20, 2026.

  • Award winner will be notified by early July, 2026.
